I found this was the best way to do the armor belt for the way I built her. TAKE YOUR TIME!! I messed up a little bit because I went fast and I forgot some little tricks! lol!! :)

    1) Sheet like normal.

    2) Make small slit at the top of the armor belt from the inside.

    3) Pull the knife out and put back in same slit from the outside and run along the armor belt with a little downward angle as to stay on the armor belt and not "walk off" it.

    4) Cut the entire length of the armor belt.

    5) Push in and glue into place.

    6) Armor belt complete! :)
Silk span and dope the entire ship like normal making sure to push in the silk span into the armor belt. Be careful, if not done with care can be a cause for a leak.
    HAVE FUN!!!

you silk span after the the balso is on the boat then. and then silk span fills in the gap? is there a over lap of the upper piece and the lower, does not look like it?

Ya I would put a couple coats of dope on the balsa wood first to help water proof (its still weak enough for BBs). And then you put one layer of silk span over all the balsa wood including the armor belt. Put a couple more coats of dope on. The silk span + dope will give the armor belt a seamless look and keep water out. And then paint... Thats how I got my armor belt to look the way it did.

No overlap. The silk span will "join" the two. And with the fiber glass behind it its pretty strong. My bismarck would know, right nick ;)

Probably dont need that many coats of dope, but your belt has held up pretty well, and we've chewed the heck out of the edge of that.
