Today's NABS/NATCF cannon building session saw people working on just about anything. I found HMS Hood's original BB cannons in my basement. They were overhauled by Steve Crane and Hood's new owner Ian. Ian's buying them for his Treaty Hood and will order a pair of BC 75 shot cannons for her aft turrets.
Host Steve Hill has found local suppliers for the parts used in the BC breaches so we can build them more cheaply than importing them. Many of us will be converting our Swampworks style breaches ro the harder firing BC type. I built a 75 round mag for Steve Crane's Andrea Doria and Jay worked on some cannons (for the Ise?).
Dave and I sanded the I-400 plug - Steve H. had already done quite a bit of work plastering and sanding. About 5-10 more hours work and it should be ready to mold. Steve was installing the barbettes on HMS Vanguard. Ian's still working on his HMS Renown plug and plans to will build her as his second Treaty ship.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday for more work on the I-400 plug.

    Hey All,

Sounds like a lot of great work got done. Will these build sessions continue into the summer? I will be getting back to Halifax in early May and these meetings sounds like a great way for me to get the Terror finished and the Nagato refitted, not to mention meet all the new members.

    regards,
    Tom

    Tom,
As long as Steve Hill is willing to put up with us or someone else can provide a workspace now and again I think the build sessions will continue. Four of us have been getting together 1-2 tmes a week, mainly to work on the I-400 hull plug, but there are several ship building projects that would benefit from more build sessions.
When Ian gets back from sea in a few weeks he'll need help installing Hood's BB cannons and hooking up the plumbing. He needs a pair of 75 shot cannons to complete the internals, and will probably need to switch the 2.5/1 Master Airscrew gearboxes for 3/1 and fit smaller props to slow Hood down for Treaty. Hood also needs a 50% larger rudder and smaller pump output restrictor.
Jay's building the Ise for his wife Pam, I'm working on the CVL Ibuki, Steve H. and I are working on our Vanguards, Rob Clarke on Takao, and Steve C. on Andrea Doria.

    Ian,
Let me know when you get the 2 cannons from BC so we can finish the Hood's rearmament.
