Fellow Captains... lend me your ears.

I have recently started school as some of you already know. I have an 8-10 page essay due in three weeks. The assignment was given today. After discussing possible topics (we are allowed to choose anything, and it should be fun and interesting) with my Prof, I have narrowed it down to two canidates both approved by her.

The first is the DKM Bismarck. There are pros and cons to this. There is massive amounts of info and I have interest. The negative is, it has been done and I want a little more of a challenge.

The second and more interesting to me is the hobby. I am more interested in this as a subject. But, where to begin. Wha sources are out there that give info on the hobby? I can cite up to three sources from the internet and then as many interviews as I want. I don't know what written resources are out there if any.

So. Here is my pickle. I need feedback from anyone. Should I persue the well-researched ship, or have a essay with a presentation on our beloved hobby. If the latter is the way to go, I'd like to see who would be interested in providing me with an interview. Also, if anyone wants to point me in the direction of a good source for info... I'd appreciate it. My decision has to be in tommorrow in the AM.

Thanks everyone. Looking forward to what you have to say.

Just did some preliminary scanning. Between IRCWCC, MWC and I checked out the big gun North Texas Battle Group. I am not sure if there is enough info up on each to cover the essay...

    Wow and check this out...

I've also called up Queen's Own and Battler's Connection. The more I think about it. There should be enough history and personal stories to write a book. I'd like to stay with this the more I check stuff out. With regards to the history, worldwide, would Marty Hayes be a good source to get info from? Greg McFadden's viewpoint? Curt's, if he is willing? Who else? Who would be willing to jot some info for me?

Start throwing out suggestions guys, I'm going to do some more hunting. Hope there is something here when I get back.

I think the hobby would be a better choice than 1 particular ship. I think there is enough to do a great paper.

Craig go with the hobby. The research will amaze you and you will learn more than you ever dreamed about the hobby. I know one of the guys did a paper on it and I have done research material on it myself. I still have material you can use or gather from.

I'd go with the hobby. I did a census a few years back. It might be a bit out of date, but it might be an interesting data point. I'd be glad to provide some info on recent developments in Big Gun, the WWCC, and the Maker Faire. Also, Firepower Dan should have some good info on NASWCA and the founding of the Big Gun part of the hobby.

Thanks for the info guys and your support, keep it coming. Eric! I would be interested in the census for sure. The more data the better. I will be firing off some questions your way for sure. I need to put the decision to my Prof tommorrow, then I can start beating the bushes for info. Thanks for offering the help. I will get in touch with you as well for Firepower Dan's contact info if you don't mind.

There should be plenty of material for the hobby and the local connection.

Ok. Have some great info. Curt. Do you think the article can be scanned at a higher resolution? and resent? I have trouble reading it. I also have a fantastic interview with Curt. E-mails going out now to those I would like to interview. Thanks all.

Ok. I have contacted four other people to see if they are intested in particpating in my essay question asking part of the research ... type... thingy.... Here is the short list of those who I sent to:

    Marty Hayes
    Justin Scott
    Greg McFadden
    Bob Pottle

If there is an opinion out there, or someone else who wishes to pass on info, please feel free to email me. I may not quote you in the article, then again you never know. Thanks for the interest guys and gals!

I replied with my phone number Craig. It would be fun to chat on the phone, but if that doesn't work out, shoot me questions...
