Are French vessels considered Axis or Allied ? I want to throw my considerable bulk in with the Axis fleet yet ,I would like to build a Jean Bart to do so. I like the way it looks and plans are free. ( Thanks Tugboat..... Heil Fluegel !)
Ahhh So I can surrender..... Then join winning side in true French fashion then So I Guess the Jean Bart it is . I need to get a servo that will run up flag for current affiliation. Things start looking iffy for the Axis Then with a flip of a switch down comes the Vichy flag and Up runs the Free french flag.Vive La Victorie!!!!!
Just realized that the Jean Bart has no stern guns. That seems to be a key to a winning strategy in mwc where I will be a participant. S anyone have any other suggestions?
The following advice applies to Fast Gun (MWCI or IRCWCC). Big Gun advice may be different, although I can't imagine that Jean Bart would be a totally bad choice for Big Gun. It all depends on how you battle it. Mike Mangus will likely chime in soon, and he's built and battled one and can offer more specific advice. My advice is to pick a ship you like and don't worry so much about whether it'll be good or not. If it's horrible, someone will tell you when you announce what you want to build. There aren't a lot of horrible ships, although for people new to combat ship building, destroyers and submarines fall into that category. Cruisers and battlecruisers are next, followed by battleships (class 5 or 6). Avoid the great big ones early on. Jean Bart is large, but not unmanageable as builds go. If you use the speed to dictate terms of engagement with slower battleships, the twin sidemounts will sting anyone that gets alongside. You do get to mount a single stern gun in a secondary turret back there, so it's not totally defenseless. Just enough to keep people honest Other advice: once you build it, stick with it for at least 2 years. Some people say 5. I discovered true battling happiness after 2 years with Scharnie because I got the boat reliable (it takes time). So build one that you feel drawn to, and stay with it for a while. This also keeps you from shelling out a lot of money for more boat parts every 6 months If you really want to do Jean Bart, do it! If you want to do something else but don't have plans, drop me a line, I have a LOT of plans on my hard drive.
The way it goes generally with the French ships that I battle against is they just starting shooting their own team members without any flag changes. Thanks again Mike...
@Mark... proper etiquette in such a scenario is to fire once on the teammate, then say 'Oops!', and then continue to shoot at either side
Definately stay with a boat once you start. Too many make the mistake of stating a boat, then another, then another, then another, and never finish or never have a reliable boat. Sticking with a boat for a couple years after it's done lets you learn how to battle...not just what is broken during a given battle. If gives you time to rebuild systems with better techniques, different technologies, or just different materials. Some other person may have solved a problem you are having and you get a chance to copy the solution to make your own boat better. Some Frenchies to consider for first builds: Dunkirk/Strasbourg Suffren Algerie Glorie/Montcalm
We've been exchanging PM's, I believe that he is going to give Edgar Quinet a go Armoured Cruiser for the win!
If you want to be a side flipper with a sidemount ship go with a Moltke. She can be both Axis and Allied. Plus it's an easy ship to build, easy to battle, only ship with two stern sidemounts and a stern gun.
Not that I have any intention of being a side flipper. Just certain situations (ie. North Carolina and a SoDak bearing down on me ) it is good to have options. Such as shooting at nearest Scharnie to divert there attention else where while I line up my next shot on them.
Some very good advice all around. Has anyone finished one of the armored cruisers yet. I am looking forward to seeing one somewhere. I hope you stick with the French stuff. Mikey
