Well, after a few months of research, a trip to a battle, a purchased VDT kit, a couple of shots of moonshine, and being little more than a nuisance around this joint I finally got a chance to get started on the build. I found a few build blogs during my research phase and swore I'd do the same thing in an effort to help future newbs so I'll be posting pics over there for the most part and just reference updates here. Take a look when you have the time, click HERE for the blog. A big THANKS to John ("Ragresen" on the forum) for his help in getting me started. No matter how dumb my question he just smiled and slowly explained what I needed to do. Thanks, man! And for those of you who haven't met him you'll be happy to know he got a little work done on his latest boat. You'll be happy because the new ship fits in his Corvette which means he's got no excuse not to ride the 'vette to future battles. Next time I'll get some shots of his car, it rocks! And a big thanks to all the guys both here and on the MWCI listserve who've helped both via email and the forum. Y'all rock (but not as much as John's Corvette...did I mention how cool that car is?).
Not to rain on your parade, but i think that unless you are entirely sure of what your doing, pics and text will be enough. Maybe for a second build, you can do a how-to, but most of the people doing how-tos here are veterans. Not that you cant, but just my two cents. On a lighter note, YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I cant wait to see this one, I want extra pictures, more then enough pictures, i want film! ok, not those last two, but you understand, Will.
Seriously I had a good pair of teachers when I started on my Des Moines and well I tend to like to see things getting better for all of us. That is why I help out and answer questions. Your VDT will get done a lot sooner than you think if you keep at it. Do not be like me and constantly drag your feet. Thankfully a lot of the little things got done on my Konig Class Sunday night and a bit while I was out sick from work yesterday. Also I am willing to have more impromptu Build Sessions as Sunday really got me fired back up. So I needed this as much as you did. BTW enough about my big toy. She needs some cleaning done to her and a little bit of tweaking, but she is a fine Corvette.
Well, not really shootin' for a "how to" so much as sharing the first build experience. I've found it can be just as useful for me to watch someone screw up as it is to watch 'em do it right...and I'm King of screwing up. Now where did I put my umbrella....Har!
Ah, the wonders of a computer in the office, a spreadsheet opened in the background, and the alt>tab trick when the boss pokes his head in my door. Of course, it also helps to be self-employed. Heh.
Uh, didn't you see the red "click HERE" link above? Sheesh! I guess we know how long y'alls school bus was.... Heh.
