It used to sound like popcorn. That was,... eight years ago now? Since 2017,and battling Gary Powell, the Sirocco went from Combat to the shelf, and has sat there up till now. With the sunny weather this week, the ship came off the back shelf for a 24 hour refit. Everything seems to be working except a transmitter rheostat for turret rotation. Might be an easy fix, I see a rheostat on another transmitter... Standing by,... .
Wow, 1:72 has been almost silent for years. Glad to hear folks are still around. I brought a bunch of 1:72 ships up to Washington a few years ago. Wish we could have done something before I moved back to the east coast. I would have loved to try the format.
Welcome back, and it's too bad PMWC killed itself I like the 1/72 format best and with 3D printing we can bling out the boats much easier. I still have 6 armed boats in hopes one day maybe.
There are three people in the Oregon, maybe five or six boats, three, including mine, which can probably sortie, if a battle were to occur. I have all the molds for parts, and a lot of secondary castings that we used as master to make pretty parts. Other than some lifeboat davits, I was able to dig through the parts box and sift out the parts I needed to refit my ship.
Portland, and Eugene. Gary was doing a good job of keeping us active during those years. For some reason, we never had much interest within Oregon. Hence our travel up to Gig Harbor over the years. .
Here is the sister to that boat. We built 3, and all of them went north, Cliff had this one. I built this in 95 and helped build the other two, I was able to get this back along with Tirpitz in 2013 from Deryk. I have only had 3 sorties with this boat but was fun fighting it.
I have the Lutsow, Mike Harder did a clipper bow on her. She has been decommissioned as I did not receive the guns for her. The hull has been cut in half to allow placement in my car and the hull enforced with fiberglass for when I ever get around to finishing the superstructure.
Howdy Everyone. I guess I'd have to agree the sunny weather is good for boat building. Freighter has new paint, new motor/shaft/prop/6 channel radio. Runs well and is commissioned. 2 three gun destroyers about 75% complete. Sorry Phil the guns for your Lutzow disappeared into Bobs shop. Sometimes I wish I still had that ship/guns.
Nice you got Le Hardi, she was a mess, but the guns were good. I was going to give her a total rebuild but we fell apart, and I got back into Big Gun. We should try and get a battle going later this year or next I might be able to get a couple of people to attend. Do you have plans for her?
I'd like to get Le Hardi and Marne combat ready. I might have an interested person and I'd let them run Le Hardi.
We had two ponds in Molalla, OR. One was part of the Molalla Radio Control Association, one of three ponds they had access to on the lower pasture. You can still see the harbor, where the owner dumped gravel for us. But they had a rancher leasing it a few years ago, so we couldn't use it. The other was, the Alexi-Eli Winery owner, was friends with a past member, and we had use of the golf carts to transfer everything down the hill to the pond. I don't think we have any access there any more. Ponds have always been an issue down here also. We could probably work out use of the Banks, OR pond again, with the Oregon Miniature Aircraft squadron. However, the reason we stopped using that pond was that it took two or three days to clear the milfoil weed that was growing around the dock and ramp. I doubt that issue was ever solved. We found three water ski slolem ponds in Winlock WA, along I-5, now there are four, but they want $600 a day, or more, or the purchase of property along the pond for access. To the South, we had Sutherlin, but lost contact with the owner over the years. It was great for meet ups with California, and you could camp on site.
I don't have a ship but would drive down to Oregon for an event like that to help you guys out! I would like to find a pond down in Oregon as well to get some interest for IRCWCC. Back in the late 90s/00s we had one battle down in Oregon.
I tried to get a hold of the Molalla Radio Control Association a couple months ago to ask about their pond but never heard back.
We're going to need more skippers if we want to hold any event(s). I'm working on getting two ships up and combat ready fairly soon. So, if you show for an event, I'll hand you the Xmitter for one of them. Then, your free to use/keep it to be returned upon your exit from the hobby.
I’m not sure how much this would help you but we are trying out a new pond up here for the months of August, September and October. It’s a 67 acre property with three different ponds on it. They look pretty nice, but we haven’t had a chance to battle on them yet. We could do a dual club event on the same day.
