So are there any groups out there around salt lake city, UT? the company I work for is moving to Ogden, UT and some of us have been asked to move with the company (unfortunatly, a great many more were not asked to move), and while my wife and I are still deciding the course of action, moving is probably going to happen. thanks Greg
Hey guy good luck hope everything works out for you. Some times you have to bit the bullet and go where the work is. Buddy
that being said, I am thinking about selling my boat stuff since it looks like it won't get used any time soon.... but we will see
we battle once a month if you can make it to So. Cal. It's about 690 miles, and actual driving time would be around 12-13 hours may be we could do a weekend battle if you come down
Not Fast Gun but if you ever make it out to the WWCC, we can find a boat for you to borrow. We have three major battles each year: Maker Faire, Campaign Game, and Last Man Standing, in addition to our monthly battles. There is also a group out near Sacramento and Reno, if driving time is a concern. I seem to remember there are a few guys closer to Utah who are trying to start a club, but I think they wanted to do 1:96 scale destroyers vs submarines or something. May have been square-riggers. I'll see if I can dig up their contact information but it's been a while.
There you go ! There is some guys to hang out with, also dig around and you might find more, seems like there was a guy up in Idaho dont remember where. was buiilding a Utah or something like that. Buddy
Oops, forgot to mention the WWCC is in San Jose, California. I'll bet the drive time to visit us is comparable to the drive time to SCRAP. We're both on the California coast. the Cal-Neva Combat Club is closer, but only marginally so. I know we have had one combatant visit the Maker Faire a couple years ago from the Utah area. Now if only I had his contact information...
yeah, all of those trips are far too distant for me to make any time in the near future.... ahh well, no club at all means I can shelve the baden for a bit and decide what to do with her... Maybe it is time to big gun it up.... (need to look more closely into the big gun rules to see if that might be a good way to go, I realized after reading the latest IRC rules proposal for casemates, that I hate casemates in fast gun...)
Well, I've moved but my boat stuff and mill has not. The boats were sold to the WCC folks to keep them in WA and the mill is in storage for at least a year. I may still do some design work but no more fab/boat stuff for a while
That saddens me deeply Greg. I love your threads and was hoping to work with you in the future. Did you keep your Baden at least? Mike Butts
I really enjoyed reading your threads on building stuff. This sounds like a case of life getting in the way of fighting the boats for a while. But if one digs deep enough into the bad, they can at times find a little good. If you do get a chance to attend the occasional battle with the groups out that way, they would probably be able to loan you a boat for the event. Everyone brings something different to the table. So perhaps you can still do some design work, ( or something that you really enjoy), and then pass it on to someone else that can manufacture it for use in the hobby. I do hope that all works out well for you and your family. Following the work for one's current company is often a hard decision to make. But it is also often the right decision. Good luck. Mikey
Yepo. I still hope to get some time to do some design work on cannons/pumps, but it is harder not being able to prototype anything for test.... -Greg
I took some time off for a baby, I'm kinda bummed no one mentioned me. I thought I'd made a bigger impression on the WWCC guys than that. I'm in Layton, UT. I've got a functioning Cleveland that I've fought with the WWCC. They were kind enough to overlook the miriad ways I broke the rules. I'm sad that I was so slow to hear about this, but I'd love to pick your brain, and enlist your help in building ships, in addition to the cleveland, I've got a Richeleu, a North Carolina and A Utah that are all in various early stages of construction.
I was interrupted at work when I was reading this and before I could reply again. I was at Maker Faire in '10 and you crossed my mind after my last post. Sorry I was slow on the draw. Greg, James is a cool guy with some serious electronics savvy. His Cleveland was being controlled with a PS2 controller with an integrated Arduino setup thingy. It was way beyond my level. Mike Butts
