ok i've been looking at getting into this hobby for sometime now and was wondering what would be a good starter ship? i have pretty decent modeling skills and have been into r/c for many years. i live in Illinois just south of Chicago so i'm not sure if there are any active clubs in my area?
I think the best starter ship would be the USS Brooklyn. It says it is the best for rookies. So I suggest that one but I am about to order it others may have better answers than me. Ben Goodwin
ok thanks, i've been mostly looking on the battlers connection website and i'm wanting to get the most complete ship i can for my first build to make it a little easier but i will look into the Brooklyn
World War I battlecruisers are often good starter ships. Not as fast as cruisers but roomier, more maneuverable, more arming options, and perhaps easier to build. Popular options include the Invincible and Moltke.
Good advice... First of all, out of all who replied, what boats do they have if any? We are the ones who build and battle. Here's advice I always give. Build bigger. Cruisers are small, dificult and tippy for the most part. I recommend West Virginia/ California class. Very stable, big ,can take damage and fights well. What you do is up to you. Choose well and you will have fun, choose poorly and you will quickly frustrate with this hobby. Remember, this really is bb battleships.
well for my first build project i'm going to start to build a Mehoshi Maru to test my building skills before i get into the expensive ships. i might get a start on that this weekend
That sounds like a good idea to get building experience. At least you have a plan to learn and then build bigger and better.
thats my plan, i don't want to get overwhelmed on my first build with a big expensive ship so i'm going to start out small and simple
I'm starting out with a Brooklyn to get a handle on building and battling, then I'll pick me up a nice BB or BC.
As long as you aren't expecting too much of the Brooklyn. It will make a great second ship over time. Your biggest (and I mean biggest) obstacles to overcome are keeping it light and keeping it stable... When you master that, you will have a decent cruiser.
