I seek the collective wisdom of the boards. Does anyone know the configuration of the aft bridge of the Mississippi before the cage main mast was installed? I have several views that show there was something but not its shape. I am basing the forebridge on plans of the Connecticut class as I have plans of that with the military mast but the aft bridge area on that class was very different from the photos I have seen of the Mississippi. Thanks j.
I have reasonably close pic from the port quarter that shows some of the lines in back, and one that shows the quarterdeck and top of the forward turret (not what you want, but still neat). I have a pic of the Kansas' rear SS looking past the turret from the quarterdeck. Not great for SS lines, but lots of detail and shows a bit of an 8 inch turret on the stbd side. Some more nice ones of the fwd SS and main and 8 inch turrets, too. All these are from 'The American Steel Navy'. Friedman's US Battleships has a side view pre-cage mast on page 48.
No problem There are two nice pics on the US Naval Historical Center site, but alas, they are victims of the service slowdown afflicting that site. Full-size pics can't be downloaded until they get their new servers up.
Try these pics... [edit: tried hotlink, but no joy.] [Edit 2: Apparently Navsource are picky bastids about linking period. Here's the link to the whole BB-23 page. The pics are on there.] http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/23.htm
