Im wondering if thier is any tricks to make an rc battleship cheaper im going with the hms roberts because it has olnly one turret that will cut down a little of the cost as instead of $600 in 3 turrets in a Missouri. It wil be a long time bfore I build one but I dont want to spend lots of money.:)

If you are considering HMS roberts for fast gun, there are better ships to choose from. Even an experienced builder will find the HMS roberts a tough build as there is not a lot of room. If you are wanting to keep the price down look at a cruiser or a small class 4 battleship

There is nothing that says you have to front all the money for the build right away. I'm sure there are plenty of us that buy a hull, and then more components as time & money allow.

Money can be saved by building a hull, especially if the builder has some experience in woodworking or model building. :)

Yet we have to be realistic about the cost. Even a scratch built small ship with a limited number of home built cannons and components can still cost $400 at least. There are some things that cannot be made such as motors, radios, regulators, co2 tanks, etc. All it all, a ship is going to take money as well as time.

Like someone mentioned previously, the cost can be spread out over the course of building a ship. There is no reason to buy a radio before the hull is built. Or build/buy cannons without a hull either. Even the hull can be built in steps and the cost of wood spread out over time. Even so, we have to realize that the ship is going to cost a bit of money in the end and be prepared to accept it if the goal is to have a combat ship.

Where abouts are you located? It might help to know what rules others near you are playing with. In order to battle...you have to have an opponant, and it makes it easiest if you build your ship to the rules being used by people around you.

That's pretty much in the middle of MWCI country ;) Which is good news, you've got several people down there who can help you out. I'd suggest you take a look at www.mwci.org (the main website for model warship combat inc) which has all our rules, building requirements, membership info, etc. Also, I would take a look at a class 3 cruiser for a first ship to build and battle. They are among the least expensive and easiest to build, offer many different ships from many nations to choose from, are fast enough to stay out of trouble, and have an easier learning curve to learn the basics of combat. There are also many kits out there that further ease construction. Strike Models and Battlers Connection each have several cruiser kits available.
