Under the rules, we get a certain number of BB-firing guns, based on the number of guns carried/rating of the ship. The First-Rates 'only' carry 18 guns, which will be: 1)expensive already, and 2) a challenge to get to reliably fire as it is. Your 6th-rate that nominally carried 22 guns gets 8 in the AoS system. You can do a 4 gun broadside with no chasers, or a 3 gun broadside with a pair of chasers in the bow (or 1 bow and 1 stern), etc... no more than 2 guns in chase fore or aft.

    Hey Tug,
So that's all the AoSailors at this time? Only 5 ships, okay I guess a large battle is aways off in the future.

Can you imagine the fleet tactics? I almost want to shelve all my current projects to build a ship (almost).

Built mid-90s sometime, 1/48th scale C.S.S. Alabama for RC Combat (ribs and balsa construction). Never battled another RC sailing model except a Big Gun ship for testing. Her six canon have since been removed and sold. Her hull is still sailable though the interior is gutted. She has a three inch motor driven prop or full sail control. I also have an old pirate hull ribbed out and glued together, but never skinned her. Retiring in a couple years and moving home to Florida. I'll likely get bored and finish them. If anything my Alabama will get a proper burial at sea (on camera). These monsters take up a lot of workroom space. :) TimMc

Added Tony (sorry it took so long!) to the captain's list. Anyone else?

Connie the Constitution, or the Constellation? Old Ironsides routinely carried more than her rated number of guns and was widely regarded in the Royal Navy as being superior to their own 40-50 gun frigates, to the extent that orders were disseminated ordering RN frigates to deny Constitution and her sisters single combat. I'm comfortable with her being rated a 4th rate for our purposes.

I may have assumed Tony was building a Constitution by the previous posts, which would have made it better than 6th rate. But the post did say 6th rate frigate, not Constitution. Heh.

Ooh, Ooh! I want to play. Put me down for an 1812 American privateer, Prince de Neufchatel. 24 cannons and a few square sails gives this 28" long ship 8 BB guns. A book with plans has been purchased and a space cleared on the workbench for building, but that's it so far.

BB, welcome to wind-power! What's an actual name to list on the list? :)

A 4-gun broadside will give anyone in the hobby pause... Of course, at this point, any guns in a broadside would! ;)

I'm looking forward to it. Kotori and I should have our current (non-combat) models of Constitution and Victory to practice sailing with. It's quite fun when you've got a decent regular breeze going. Unfortunately, I'll need to look for a new pond to sail in. Concerns over Charlie the alligator have forced me out of the pond I've used for testing and practice so far. I think there's a good spot just down the road, so I'll check it out this weekend.

I would consider it a personal favor if you did NOT get yourself eaten by Charlie :)
