Fiberglass Richelieu hull from Strikemodels

I received a pair of fiberglass Richelieu hulls from Strikemodels, and wanted to post something about the hulls, and the service.
I can't say enough about the level of service that I received from Stephen, and Keri, at Strikemodels.
They were both a pleasure to work with, and kept me up-to-date on the status of the order.
The hulls are absolutely fantastic. Nice and thick, with crisp edges. The gelcoat is white, which will make marking off the windows easy.
I couldn't be happier with both the product, and the service.

The mold was made by Ralph Coles up in Canada.
And there have been quite a few hulls produced from it, and models built.
But over the years, the shipping companies, customs, and other things have made it more of a hassle to ship the
larger hulls accross the borders, so having the mold down here in the states is a pretty good thing.

The ships.
The French ordered four of these "treaty" battleships.
Richelieu, Jean Bart, Clemenceau, and Gascogne.
Only the Richelieu, and Jean Bart were completed.
With an over-all length of 813', and a beam of 108', they have a lot of hull volume.
They have four shafts, and a single center-line rudder, but are fairly manouverable for their size.

They are indeed very nice hulls.
But more importantly. They are very nice ships. They are so well ballanced, that they are a great ship in every format of warship combat.
They are perhaps one of the best capital-ships that you can build in the big-gun groups. They have high speed, and lots of fire-power, and survivability. And are
relatively inexpensive (compaired to most other capital-ships), due to the quad turrets.

In fast-gun, they are fast, fairly maneuverable, heavily armed, and have lots of survivability.

In Treaty, they have the speed to dictate when and where the engagement takes place (as often as not), lots of hull volume, (to enhance their battleship pump),
dual side-mounts, and pretty good maneuverability.

They have been pretty well represented in the big-gun format.
Less so in fast-gun so far.
Only occasionally in Treaty up till now. But there is a lot of potential.

guys,
the hulls in side look pink.. but its might just be from the photos. Steven and Keri are the hull pink inside or is that just the way they are?

That's typical of hulls from molds made by Ralph Coles. Wait until you see his next one!

Blair Mason is selling his Richielieu to me as he is in Calgary Alberta. When I get that I want to get the Deck from Strike and all the other goodies . I will get that from his parents in Nova Scotia but first going on Vacation for 3 weeks next week so I will be out of the loop till then.

Are you going to build it for combat? It has nearly the same dimensions as HMS Vanguard.

 

I doubt I will be building it for combat. I Haven't battled since 2010. If I go to Nats or NS it is not the ship for me for battling .

 

I would love to see you build something French. Combat or otherwise.

Well you have to look at the ships we all know you have and I'm sure you'd come to the conclusion that it is a legitimate assumption.
