The PE will go to Nats, were all flying up together from Orlando, I found us some $280 round trip tickets, so its cheaper for us to fly than drive. I thought a smaller ship would be better to make the trip. Rick is bringing his Scheer, Marc a Konig, but Don wants his NC. The 3 of us hope to each have a cruiser also. [8D] We are going to ship it all up a few weeks in advance to ensure that it all arrives by the time we do. I'm working on my combination 5 volt regulator, diode firing board right now, just some parts from radio shack. Trying to keep the wiring to a minimum, but making all the guns fire independent, or as a tripple battery. No test switches needed that way, and conservation of ammo.[]
Sounds cool! Iy'll be nice to have PE and Konig watching Fuso's back. Or will it be the other way around? Hmm...well just nice to have some other 28-26 sec ships on the water!
You will have to be the protector, we are both 28 sec ships, your the high speed 26, LOL. We will have to work together with Paul also if his Wesfallen comes, and just pick out a target and the 4 of us box it in, and then pound on it.
Match up between axis and allied slow fleet would be interesting. Allied normaly have SD and QE types. Axis with Fuso, VU and Westfallen? Edge for allies on speed and weight, edge for axis on manuverabilty for the little guys. VU and Westfallen can get knocked around in a slug match pretty good by QE types, given the weight difference of 60%. Not clear what would work out better, brutality or agility.
Well knowing that last year Fuso went toe to toe with both the Warspite and the Barham and lost isn't promising, but it also has made me completely ro-do my water channeling. I think both times the damage caused water to pool up in the bulges and roll away from my pump. Especially against the Warspite, all the damage was low on one side and she rolled under the same way. I think I'll try this concrete sealer trick to help keep the water out of the bulges. Then I might feel more eager to play bumper-boats with the barham again.
Check your superstructure weight, it could be causing the list. Take the deck or SS off and sink the ship in a tub or pond. May need to lighten the top side. Also check you internals. Sometimes just shifting the battery a little helps. Make sure and check things with the pump on as it pushes the ship to one side.
Yes the waterchanneling should help alot. You can laydown each section. I did the stern first, then the rest, but you could do each side one at a time also, in the pictures you can see I put in a cofferdam to stop it from filling some area's.
Thanks Bob, I actually weighed the SS and deck and it was a lot heavier than I thought so I'm working on a more lightwieght deck with plastic and balsa SS towers. I don't know about the pump as I am going to have to move the outlet but I'm not sure where to until the new SS is finished so might have to wait on that one... Thanks for the tips!
I taped off the hull today, and will cut the windows out tomorrow. I need to get a move on, I want to battle it the first weekend in Feb.
Finished cutting out the windows, the one thing about building the boats I do not like much. I usually get my FSIL to do it, but hes working. Backing up the ribs now with 1/4 in ply, 1/2 deep. I decided to try the thin layer of , lol, forgot what its called, as armour. Hope to have all the ribs backed up by tomorrow, I finished 10 of the 26 already, so they should be done, then will resin everything, another fun job. After that I plan on adding the plastic screen material to the bottom of the armour, and attach the other side to the hull just below the cut out windows. Hopefully this will catch alot of the blasted out balsa wood, so that it stays out of the pump intake. To clear out the BB's and wood, I will just have to tip the boat forward so that they all run to the bow, where I plan on leaving it open. Then magnet them all up. I will take some pictures in the next couple of days.
David I know I get to do this the hard way, But after the first battle in February I think Water Channeling for my Des Moines may be necessary. I will see how she does with out it in February. Good to hear you are Progressing on your PE I look forward to some of the pictures.
I will be ready to start wiring the PE within the next week or so, I plan on doing your Des Moines and my PE wiring at the same time.
Great progress this week so far, got everything sealed with resin, got the armour, solenoids, expansion tanks, and drive system installed. Just need to put the rudders in, refit the deck, and mount the guns. Made up the turrets, so by the end of this weekend for sure I will finish the wiring, then just need to sheet it and make the superstructure, and paint.
Woohoo!!! The Return of the Pigboats. Too bad we cant catch anything We will have to be like a pack of wild 28 sec dogs and hunt down and shoot something. Maybe I can find someone to play with me this year at NATs besides QEs and NCs Herr Blockenstein SMS Rheinland
Got the water outlet installed, and tested with a pump, works great. Got 3 of the turrets installed. Just need to mount the guns, do the wiring, sheet it, build the superstructure, and paint. Not much more to go. Paul what batteries do you use in yours?
Single 12 Ah SLA ... So far works fine and I couldnt any more in it. Currently trying to make mine a ship again instead of a submarine going forward. Paul
I'll cover the Axis Piggies as best I can with my massively swift 26sec speed. I'm not sure who we'll get to play with us, maybe an I-boat or something like that.
And if Chris comes that will be 2 of you with that outragous 26 speed to help us out. Right now I have 2, 7 amp planned for mine.
