Sorry, that's a Roberts class monitor, my bad, I mis-remembered.

    I meant Roberts class.

I can not find any line drawings for the HMS Neptune. I have at least 40 sets of drawings in my tube cabinet. After doing my honeydos I will go dig them out and we will run a poll to see which one we build.

Hopefully we have at least 4 or five building with us.

Well, we need to decide on a ship that will provide the most builders for the group at start.
I luv the VU myself, yea there are a few out there but there is a reason for that.... it's a good ship to battle. We don't want to build a lemon

The VU has 4 units, twin rudders, and is fat and short...... Great ship to get into furballs with. Her hull lines are simple and would make a good build for the first timers.

Does anybody have line drawings for the Neptune. I have the VU, but can not find any for the Neptune.

I vote for the SMS Helgoland or Nassau class DN's. I'd love to see how well that hexagonal turret layout would work for sidemounts

The Helgoland has a very pretty bow, or is that just me?
And thats a very interesting turret formation, could prove very usefull, depending on how many you could arm.

Helgoland is a nice ship. It gets 4.5 units in fast gun with two sidemounts (one per quadrant). Three shafts and twin rudders gives it very good turning. There is a few battling very effectively in IRCWCC. Very tough to pin one down long enough to put damage on it.

You would have 3 guns, 1 pump. 2-50 bb mag guns and 1-75 bb mag gun.

So 75 on rear, with each 50 covering a forward quadrant, or pick one forward quadrant for the 75 and put both 50s on the stern turret?
Most fast gun ships I've seen prefer the stern to other turrets...

Your stern sidemount is your best gun, put the 75 rounds here.
Stern gun, in a wing turret with 50.
Either a bow sidemount or a wing turret sidemount with the other 50. The wing turret sidemount is a little crazy, but not that crazy. It's really hard to chase people with a stern sidemount, a bow sidemount might be more usefull in a slow ship. Plus there's not much to shoot at so chasing sterns, normaly a very bad idea, is a little safer.

Agrred with Bob ... a 75 round haymaker in the stern is deadly.

For those feeling a bit adventerous and don't mind giving up a ranged stern gun, the wing turret stern gun can be angled out and down 15 degrees opposite of the haymaker for a little extra offensive defense on the open stern side. The Helgoland is manuverable enough to line up good shots with it.

And of course a bow sidemount for the times you catch a ship napping. :)

There is a Nassau fibreglass hull already, but the helgoland class would also be nice for a slightly more spacious build.

I do have a nice set of plans for a smaller ship I drew up back in 2002. It was from a set of lines I had for a model contest that I converted up to 1/144 scale. She is a very small ship, but would be a great FUN build.

The De Zeven Provencien CAE 1909, class 2 , 26 speed, 2.5 units. About 28 inches long and just under 5 inches beam.

    Here is a model shot.

This could be a very good ship for a group build as the cost is minimal and could be done on a small table in the house..... so several people could join the build...

Try contacting Tom Tanner about plans for this ship. He sails one, is into scale and also has a lot of info on the world war one German ships from a source in Germany.

The armoured cruisers are a blast to drive in battle, I highly recommend them. But watch out for the ram bow! I had no ram penalties in 6 years, then deployed Lil Scharnie with her ram bow and single driven prop, and whammo!

Yes, its a nice ship. I have a set of sheets for her. Very detailed. They where for a model contest in Europe sponsored by the NVM in the Netherlands. Never finished my plug due to the Army...:crying:

Here is a shot of the old plug. Was close to being done, needed some filling and sanding still.

Just realized that on the length to beam analysis i did last summer, the Provencien's 16.5% ratio was the highest of any ship on the list except for DNs and PDNs. It even beat out the BBs like the SoDak. The Prov shold be a very good turning ship!
