You just have to be careful, Amazons have only one use for males and that is breeding, although they do that begrudgingly. You would not get any conversation or cuddling or shopping trips or problem solving or work around the house (cause males are inferior and would not get it right) or any of the other things we men want from a relationship. Ran into a bit of a problem. I was doing a full systems test and the rudder was jammed. It would not move at all. The rudder came loose from the shaft. The only way to loosen it up was a hammer and slide it up and down. So I now have to get a new rudder shaft. And of course grease it up very well.
Sounds like either debris entered the rudder tube or adhesive may be in the tube. Or it could be the rudder post or rudder tube may have a kink in it? .
From what I can see there is no kink on the ruddertube. And it was moving when I installed it. I think there may have been something on the shaft but I can see anything now. So I have to replace the shaft and attach the rudder. I will say the rudder post was a hollow tube so it may have kinked .I will replace it with a solid piece of brass.
I always use a solid rod for the rudder and of course the stuffing tube for it is hollow. Most likely the rudder post being hollow may have had a kink and just ended up binding in the stuffing tube of the rudder mount.
That's what I think. i will be taking the rudder into maritime Hobbies tommorow to get the right sized solid brass rod.
Greetings BB, I like the look of your ship. After I finish Wisconsin later this month, I have two Pennsylvania class battleship that I will be building them concurrently. The first will be the USS Arizona on the day that she was sunk. I have been considering building the Pennsylvania with her original cage masts. How did you figure out how to build yours? What was the difficulty level of its construction? I appreciate you help. Ken
Hi Ken. The South Carolina was built by someone else. I purchased it about 7 years ago. I can take some close up shots of how the cage masts were done but I cant tell you how to make them as I have never tried to build cage masts. I have always liked the arizona. At some point I will build an Arizona.
One of the local battlers down here has an older American ship with cage masts. He did them by using a single brass rod separating two discs with notches around their rims. He then threaded a black elastic string up and down between the dics, such that the string is at an angle from the bottom disc to the top disc. Looks convincing from 5 feet, and the elastic string prevents BB damage to the detail Edit: Forgot to mention that the discs and the brass rod are painted black.
Thanks BB, I am going to PM you my e-mail address. I would appreciate it if you could send me some pictures. Ken
Ken, I built one out of brass, it was actually easy (did this for my mississippi). Get the profile shape from the plans. Now take a block of balsa and shape the profile on a drill or lathe. Use a piece of baswood and make disc's for the top an bottom. Make a number of corresponding notches in both. Here is the important part: On the bottom larger part, make it removable ( I used two dowels to attach it to the profile wood). Now take brass wire from home depot or lowes (used to hang pictures) and wrap from top to bottom in a criss cross pattern. Solder all the joints and cut the top off and the bottom where the wire is on the outside. Then remove the bottom disk and pull the form out of the cage. Wow, I think I am confused by that. I will see if I can send pictures. Lou
Ken, Look for my clevland build (page 13 or so) and check out the last page for the mississippi photos. Lou
