Thats up to Gordon Gregson. He gets the first one , the other 2 are being cut out to go one the build board. Buddy
What did you plank the bottoms with, Buddy? NICE looking hulls Edit: I must stop looking at your work. It is causing me to have impure lusting thoughts about Allied ships.
No! Say it ain't so, Tug! If you come to the light side (for any other reason other than to run your Wisconsin with my Illinois) who am I going to shoot at? But to stay on topic, those two hulls look amazing! I'm starting to think more seriously about scratchbuilding, now... maybe not a ship with guns, but a convoy vessel? Yeah, I can definitely see possibilities.
Well thank you guys, the one is the USS Arkansas and the other is for Brandon , the USS Wyoming. Both are planked from the center keel out with 1/16 plywood to just about the outer edge and then on the curves the are planked with 1/64 3 ply plywood. I then use 3 layers of 2 oz tight wove fiberglass cloth on the hard area below to jsut under the curve, from there I use 2 layers of 3 oz cloth across the flat bottom. The bow and stern get 3 to 4 layers of 2 oz cloth. I use marine grade resin on the cloth and then when it is lightly sanded I use 3 coats of marine grade ployurathane to make a good seal. All the insides will get pretty much the same treatment. Hope you enjoyed the pics, I have the thrid almost ready to fiberglass. It has been a lot of fun to build these ships, they are very unique and awsome! Buddy
Oh, Aaron... I could never betray the Greater East-Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere Not even for such craftsmanship as Buddy's. Do not fear, you will have a Class 8 opponent for the Illinois in spring, when the Moose is Loose! (tm)(R)
The workmanship is excellent! I'm building this ship for a local member who is very enthusiastic, but has no time, space, or tools to build. Plus with it technically being mine, what with the paying for everything, I can take it to events in the nice car because it fits in the trunk of the Lincoln, something that is not true about Fuso. Don't worry, I am still a Japano-phile, I just like having boats to play with too.
